Customers Switching Energy Providers Hits 6 Year High
Energy customers changed suppliers last year at the highest rate in 6 years, as they shopped around for the best deal.
According to Ofgem, bill payers switched providers over 7 million times, saving more than £200 a year.
In the coming weeks, standard gas and electricity tariffs will go up at:
- Npower
- Scottish Power
- Co-operative Energy
- First Utility
- EDF will raise electricity prices.
Of these switches, 47% were to small or medium suppliers as they continued to attract growing numbers of customers.
It’s never been easier for customers switching energy suppliers, as most switches take 3 weeks to complete including a 14 day ‘cooling off’ period. In comparison, 3 years ago it took around 5 weeks to switch utility supplier.
